Megatokyo is the story of two American gamers who get themselves stuck in Tokyo, Japan and the interesting people and events they find there, including familiar elements from a variety of anime/manga genres and the hazards of fame and obsessive fans. Schoolgirls, ninja, robots, giant monsters, magical girls, idol singers, gun toting enforcers, life philosophy from video games, and the looming threat of zombie hordes, Megatokyo has it all. Begun in 2000 by artist/writer Fred Gallagher and co-writer Rodney Caston, with Fred taking over full writing duties in 2002, Megatokyo has become one of the most well known comics on the internet, as well has having a highly successful run of print volumes. New comic pages are published online three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Chapter 0: Relax, We Understand J00
Piro and Largo, two American gamers, travel to Tokyo on a whim and get stranded there. They hook up with Piro's friend Tsubasa and move in with him. On an excursion into the city, Piro leaves his bookbag in a bookstore where it is found by Yuki, who finds his sketchbook inside. He also helps out Kimiko when she doesn't have enough money for a rail card. Piro lands a job at the MegaGamers store when Erika abruptly hires him. Piro's conscience Seraphim is sent an assistant in the form of Boo the hamster, who takes charge of Largo. Largo runs into Miho, senses evil in her, and reacts accordingly. Tsubasa introduces Piro to Ping, a prototype robot girl, before leaving her in his care when he departs for America.
Chapter 1: Do You Want To Save Before You Quit?
Largo and Ping both join Miho's high school class, Largo as the new English teacher and Ping as a student. Yuki returns Piro's bookbag to him at MegaGamers. After school Largo meets Miho and Ping at a local arcade. Kimiko, still thinking about the railcard, brings dinner to Piro at his new home at the apartment on the third floor of MegaGamers.
Chapter 2: Things Change Little By Little...
Due to popular demand, Largo is brought back to his class. Kimiko auditions for the voice role of Kotone in a game. Asmodeus shows up to be a thorn in Seraphim's side. Miho faints in the bathroom and Ping watches over her in the nurse's office, fighting off Ed when he attacks. Dom helps Largo fend off a zombie attack before the Tokyo Police intervene. Yuki returns to MegaGamers and asks Piro for art lessons. Later on, Erika takes Kimiko and the boys out for round of beer.
Chapter 3: Am I Your Number One Fan?
Largo takes his class to the arcade to sharpen their skills, but loses a duel to Miho. Piro visits Kimiko at the Anna Miller's restaurant where she works. Kimiko learns that she has won the role of Kotone, who happens to be a favorite of Piro's. Largo uses Ping's strength to fend of a monster attack, and Masamichi grants him a commission as an agent of the Police Cataclysm Division. Piro forgets about Yuki's art lesson.
Chapter 4: Low Ping Rate
Miho takes Ping and the boys out to a public bath and then to a restaurant where she reveals herself as their old nemesis from an online roleplaying game. Seraphim is captured by Asmodeus but Boo comes to the rescue. Back at MegaGamers, Dom confronts Erika about her former idol singer career that she had abruptly abandoned, leaving her fans wanting more. Largo fends off some fanboys who arrive to see if the rumors about Erika's whereabouts are true.

Makoto the MT server is kidnapped and on the run from all sorts of shady characters.
Chapter 5: Color Depth
A crowd of Erika's fans assembles outside MegaGamers. Largo brings his class to help fend them off. Erika prepares to face the mob, but Ed's new attempt on Ping's life shatters the area. Erika and Piro go outside to check on the mob's safety but retreat back inside when Piro is injured. Masamichi disperses the mod and explains the power of idols on the public. Kimiko and Piro chat while cleaning up the store while Largo tries to cheer Erika up with a video game.
Chapter 6: Operational Insecurity
Largo convinces Erika that she can better handle her fans if she monitors them online and gives her computer lessons. They go out to buy parts to build her a PC. Erika tries to get Largo to leave her alone but it backfires. Largo drowns himself in beer and then follows Piro and Ping to the Cave of Evil club, where Miho messes with him until Piro drags him back out. Kimiko's publicity appearance on a radio show doesn't go well when she scolds the host for badmouthing fans, and after she leaves she helps Piro get a drunken and skitish Largo back home.

Piro helps an injured girl while Largo seeks a lost friend. Expanded version available in the Megatokyo Volume 4 book.
Chapter 7: Known Bugs and Security Flaws
Junko, one of Largo's students, helps restore his mood with a video game. Yuki arrives at MegaGamers and finally gets her first lesson from Piro. Erika's fans again crowd the store, Miho also shows up to cause a scene. Largo clears the fans out. Masamichi comes to the store and the horrible lie his brother once told Erika is exposed. Largo tries to help her with the story of his online battles with Miho. Kimiko, now an overnight sensation, goes to work at the Anna Miller's depsite the crowd of fans waiting for her. Piro follows and tries to help but only makes things worse.
